UK ETA guidance
UK ETA processing time
The official ETA process is usually quick, but it is not instant in every case. If travel is close, it is worth knowing the difference between the usual timing and the maximum waiting time on GOV.UK.
This page explains what applicants should expect while they wait, what to do if the email is delayed, and why ETAApply cannot accelerate a government decision.
Important disclosure
Independent service
ETAApply is an independent application assistance service and is not affiliated with the UK Government. The official government application service is available through GOV.UK. ETAApply provides additional application assistance and support.

Typical timing
Usually within a day, but allow up to 3 working days
GOV.UK says you usually get a decision by email within a day, but it can take up to 3 working days. That is the timing you should plan around, not a guaranteed approval window.
If you are close to departure, apply as early as you reasonably can so you are not relying on a same-day decision.
While you wait
Do not travel until you have the confirmation email
You must wait until you receive the email confirming that you have an ETA before travelling to the UK. The application should not be treated as approval until the confirmation arrives.
If the decision has not arrived after the official period, check your spam or junk folder and then contact UKVI if appropriate.
- Check spam and junk folders
- Wait for the confirmation email before travel
- Use the official support route if the decision is still missing after 3 working days
Group applications
People in the same trip can get decisions at different times
If several people apply for the same trip, their decisions may come through at different times. That is normal and does not mean the later decision is delayed beyond the official process.
It is another reason not to build travel plans around everyone receiving the email at exactly the same moment.
Support fee
ETAApply helps with the application, not the government speed
ETAApply’s service fee covers application assistance and support. It does not buy faster processing or a preferred position in the government queue.
If you need a different outcome or more time, the right response is to plan earlier rather than expecting a third-party service to accelerate the decision.
