UK ETA passport requirements
The passport you use is central to the ETA application. If the passport details change later, the ETA normally needs to be replaced so the travel record still matches the document you show at the border.

Passport to use
Apply with the same passport you will travel with
GOV.UK says you must use the passport you will travel with, and the ETA is linked to that passport digitally.
That means the passport you carry when you travel should match the one used in the application, not a second document you plan to use later.

After passport changes
Renewed or replaced passports usually need a new ETA
If the passport expires or is replaced, the ETA linked to the old passport normally does not carry over. The official check page says you need a new ETA if your passport has expired or changed.
That is why it is worth checking expiry dates before you apply rather than waiting until travel is close.
Dual nationality
British and Irish citizenship still changes the rule
If you are a dual citizen with British or Irish citizenship, the ETA route is not the normal way to travel to the UK. The official guidance says you cannot get an ETA in that situation.
Use the passport that proves the citizenship or status that applies to your trip, and check the official guidance if you have more than one nationality.

Review the passport details before you submit
If the app or online service reads the passport photo page incorrectly, the application can be delayed or rejected. Check names, passport number, nationality and expiry date carefully before you continue.
